Daisy de Melker: Guilty Or Innocent? – Lènor Tancred – (Paperback)

Second hand book in mint condition

Who cares? It was back in 1932. And yet, Tancred has done a marvellous job of providing all the necessary facts, and then some, and one is certainly equipped to decide whether Daisy was SA’s first-ever serial killer.

She may have been charged with the murder of three husbands and her son, but she was only found guilty on the latter charge, after some dubious legal representation and extremely shoddy investigation. By today’s standards the case would’ve been thrown out of court.

Split into two parts, the fictional account plays out the facts, with pertinent issues and Daisy’s relationships treated hypothetically.

The shorter factual account only serves to prove the case was flimsy: Daisy’s son died of poisoning. Daisy once purchased poison. So Daisy must be guilty. Hogwash!
